Quan Yin (also spelled Kwan Yin, Kuanyin, Guanyin) is known in Buddhism as the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion. She is the embodiment of the divine feminine. Yin is the feminine energetic force balanced with the masculine Yang energetic force.
She is depicted riding atop a cloud with a dragon at her feet, its tail winding up the back of the sculpture. The dragon symbolizes wisdom, strength, transformation, and protective power. Quan Yin holds a vase containing the water of life, and the lotus near her feet represents purity.
